The Hybrid/Electric Difference

Hybrid and Electric cars have made a huge wave in the past few years in the car  market. These cars promise to save you on gasoline which means, in this economy, that you'll be saving quite a bit of money. The only problem is so many people don't know the difference between the two when they go car shopping.

If you're still a little bit worried about going from gasoline to electric then you might want to try out a hybrid car. Hybrid cars actually run on both gasoline and electricity so you don't have worry about running out of electricity on the road. The hybrid runs on a gasoline engine, but is powered by electricity when you are getting bad gasoline mileage. So, if you are in town and stopping and going quite frequently your car will switch over to electric mode to help you conserve gas. When you're on the highway you car will typically run on gas mode because this is when you will get the most mileage.  You usually have around 100 miles before you need to recharge the electric portion of your car, so you might end up saving quite a bit in the long run.

An electric car, on the other hand, runs on electricity only. These cars have lithium batteries that help power the car so you don't have to spend any money on gasoline again. The batteries usually last for 300 miles, which is perfect for anyone who commutes or just runs errands in the car. When the car needs to be recharged all you have to do is plug is up to a charging station, either at your place of residence or in a special charging center.

Choosing between a hybrid and an electric car really depends on your use for the vehicle and your personal preference. Many people simply want to cut down on how much they spend on gas which is why the hybrid is such a great choice. Others want to reduce their pollution so the electric car is perfect for them. Either way, make sure you do your research before choosing your next car.
