Car Reviews: Top Upscale Small Cars

A small car is not only less expensive to buy than a full size one,
but it can also be more fun to drive and it can also save you money on the gasoline. On the other hand, small cars are usually associated with slower speeds, less powerful engines, and less features. However, things are changing fast. Small cars are opening up to a new and younger population that is looking for a bit of luxury in their small cars.

Today, several upscale small car options are popping up fast. They offer great handling, a mix of refinement, performance, and sophistication. What are some of the top models in this market segment today?

Let's get started:

1) The first car to be considered in the upscale small car market segment is the 2013 Volkswagen GTI. The VW GTi offers a strong engine with sharp handling and a fun-to-drive personality. The GTI features a smooth transition and an estimated fuel economy of 24/33 mpg city/highway. Other features that are worthy of notice are the GTI's spacious front and rear seats, the well-made cabin, and its practicality.

2) The second car to be considered in the upscale small market segment is the 2013 BMW 1-Series. This car features a powerful engine, smooth transmission, agile handling, luxurious interior, and a straightforward information and entertainment system. The standard 1-Series model features 230 horsepower, but the turbocharged engines make 300 and 320 horsepower.

One disadvantage of the BMW-1 Series is the low fuel economy and reduced trunk space.

3) The third upscale small car worthy or recognition is the Buick Verano 2013. The Buick Verano features a well made interior, good truck space, a quiet cabin, and a smooth manual and automatic transmission. The turbo model makes 250 horsepower while the regular motor makes 180 horsepower. The main complain, however, is the Verano's underpowered base engine, and uninspiring handling.

The three vehicles offer a nice balance of performance and luxury for a small car.
